Facial cleansing should remove what needs to be removed without leaving your skin irritated. You do not need a harsh routine or a product promising to detox every pollutant from your face.

Use a gentle method
Choose a suitable cleanser, use lukewarm water and apply it gently with your fingertips. Rinse and pat dry rather than rubbing aggressively.
Follow the product’s instructions. If you wear makeup or a resistant sunscreen, use an appropriate remover when needed rather than repeatedly scrubbing the same area.
Adjust to your skin and activities
The right routine depends on your skin, the products you wear and whether you have been sweating. If washing leaves your skin persistently tight, itchy or uncomfortable, reassess the cleanser and technique.
Apply a suitable moisturizer when needed. A simpler routine can make it easier to identify which product is causing a problem.
Avoid unnecessary extras
- Pores do not need to be “opened” with hot steam to become clean.
- Strong scrubs are not required for routine cleansing.
- More foam does not prove a better result.
- Lemon juice and other kitchen mixtures are not substitutes for a formulated cleanser.
- Burning is a reason to stop and reassess, not a sign that cleansing is working harder.
Keep tools and products clean
Close containers, avoid sharing personal tools and follow storage directions. If you use reusable cloths or accessories, clean and dry them appropriately.
Know when a routine is not enough
Persistent acne, a rash, swelling or another concerning change needs appropriate assessment. Repeatedly changing cleansers may delay identifying the actual cause.
This is general skin-care information. If you have a diagnosed condition, follow the routine recommended by your clinician and ask before adding products that could interfere with treatment.
