A good freelance project begins with shared expectations. Clear scope and communication help both the client and freelancer understand what success means and how changes will be handled.

Write a useful brief
Describe the goal, audience, deliverables and important constraints. Provide relevant examples and explain what you like about them rather than asking for an exact copy of someone else’s work.
Identify what you will supply, such as text, product data or access, and when it will be ready. Missing inputs can affect the schedule even when the freelancer’s work is on track.
Agree on the working terms
Clarify milestones, payment, revisions and the process for additional requests. Confirm which files, rights and documentation will be included in the handover.
Use an appropriate written agreement and follow the platform’s rules when working through a marketplace. Get professional advice for legal questions specific to the arrangement.
Give access proportionately
- Share only the access needed for the task.
- Use the service’s supported invitation or permission system.
- Avoid sending unnecessary personal or customer data.
- Agree how sensitive files should be handled.
- Review access when the work is complete.
Make feedback actionable
Refer to a specific part of the deliverable, explain the problem and describe the intended result. Consolidate feedback where possible so different reviewers do not send contradictory instructions.
Distinguish a correction within the agreed scope from a new request. Discuss the effect of new work on cost and timing before expecting it to be included.
Close the project properly
Check the agreed deliverables, receive the working files and record any maintenance instructions or remaining limitations. Confirm how follow-up support will work.
Pay according to the agreement and provide an honest review where appropriate. A clear ending protects both parties and makes future collaboration easier if the working relationship has been useful.
