You cannot control whether every person respects you. What you can work on is how clearly and reliably you participate in relationships and shared responsibilities.

Make commitments realistic
Agree to work you can reasonably complete. If a deadline becomes difficult, communicate early, explain the practical issue and propose a next step. Repeatedly promising more than you can deliver makes coordination harder.
If you are late or miss something, acknowledge the effect without turning the explanation into an argument about whether the other person should be upset.
Be clear and honest
Distinguish what you know from what you assume. Correct a mistake when you discover it. In shared work, give appropriate credit and avoid presenting someone else’s contribution as your own.
You do not need to disclose every private detail to be honest. It is reasonable to say that a matter is personal or that you are not able to discuss it.
Show consideration in ordinary interactions
- Let people finish speaking before responding.
- Ask before borrowing belongings or sharing information.
- Give notice when plans change.
- Respect agreed boundaries and working hours.
- Raise concerns about behavior without attacking a person’s worth.
Keep self-respect in the picture
Being considerate does not require agreeing to every request, accepting insults or making yourself constantly available. A clear, respectful refusal can be more reliable than an unwilling promise.
Do not use appearance, disability, poverty or a difficult period as evidence that someone deserves less respect. Basic dignity is not a reward for productivity or perfect habits.
Choose one improvement
Identify a recurring situation you can change, such as confirming deadlines or responding more clearly to invitations. Ask for specific feedback and review the result.
If someone continues to mistreat you despite reasonable communication, the answer is not necessarily to improve yourself further. Boundaries and appropriate support may be needed.
