Safer online shopping depends on several checks working together. A polished website, a padlock symbol or a large review count cannot establish that a seller is trustworthy on its own.

Check the shop and the offer
- Verify the address. Read the domain carefully and reach a known retailer through a trusted bookmark or your own navigation when a message looks suspicious.
- Identify the seller. Look for clear business and contact information. On a marketplace, check the individual seller as well as the platform.
- Match the product. Confirm the model, size, quantity and condition so you know what the price covers.
- Read the terms. Check delivery, returns, cancellation conditions and support before paying.
HTTPS protects a connection in transit; it does not prove that the business at the other end is legitimate. A fraudulent site can also use an encrypted connection.
Protect the account and payment
- Use a unique password and enable suitable multi-factor authentication where available.
- Use an established payment method with protections you understand. Be cautious about pressure to pay outside the marketplace or through an unfamiliar channel.
- Share only the information needed for the transaction. Unexpected requests for account credentials or verification codes deserve particular caution.
- Keep the order confirmation, product details and relevant correspondence.
Respond calmly to a suspicious message
Do not use an unexpected link to resolve an alleged delivery or payment problem. Open the retailer’s or delivery company’s known site independently and check the account there.
If you believe you paid a fraudulent seller, contact the payment provider promptly and follow its reporting process. Change compromised credentials through the legitimate service and review related accounts when passwords were reused.
No checklist removes every risk. The aim is to make the purchase traceable and to notice uncertainty before sending money or personal information.
